Hello! I’m Meredith
(and if you haven’t noticed yet, the blog name is a pun).
I’ve been creating stories for as long as I can remember. Part of it’s because of how my brain is wired and part of it’s because I grew up on a steady diet of books, radio programs, music, and the arts. Thanks to my mom, I’m fond of historical dramas, flowers, nature, and grammar. Thanks to my dad, I’ll always have a soft spot for action movies, sci-fi stories, absurdist humor, and logic.
I finished my first complete novel as a freshman in high school. Although the novel I completed that year will forever remain in the archives, since then I’ve completed 10+ short stories, a 20+ poems, and 1 rough draft of a novel (my current WIP that I’ve been working on for over 7 years). It doesn’t look like much, but for a slow writer who aims to create books the size of War and Peace, it’s a good start.
I primarily write literary science fiction and family sagas, although I have been known to dabble in other genres when it comes to short stories and poems. I also don’t tend to read what I write: my preferred reading genres are classics (my true love), historical fiction, literary fiction, and non-fiction.
A few more facts about me:
- Worldbuilding and outlining are my favorite parts of the writing process.
- My current favorite books are The Brothers Karamazov (Fyodor Dostoyevsky), Till We Have Faces (C. S. Lewis), Wuthering Heights (Emily Bronte), and Anna Karenina (Leo Tolstoy).
- I also love: birds, aesthetic book covers, biological sciences/ecology, Western history, beautiful architecture, puns, learning languages, Christian theology, baking (and eating) cake, trying new recipes, typography, drawing, painting (watercolor and gouache), digital art, and Oxford commas.
